Fun with 3.0
I create a shortcode *56 Voicemail Node "DirectVM"
I assign action dial & *56 to the button.
Button works great.
I label the button via the 5410 menu VMT, which seems to make more sense to end users.
When I pull a config that particular button # 10 is blank and when I send the config back to the system it deletes my button altogether.

Try the following instead of using the button labeling feature:

SC: VMT
TN: "DirectVM"
F: VoicemailNode

Button Action = Dial Number = VMT

This works on all paperless label phones, and worked pre-R3 also.

Good to see Avaya finally documented that one. I had some very happy customers when I started deploying this trick a few months back.

or to relabel any button, via Manager add /MyButtonTxt after the Telephony Number field setting on the Button Programming (nee Digital Telephony) tab.

[Doesn't work for all button functions, (avoid on appearance buttons) so test carefully whilst deploying].

or allow the users to actually relabel the button themselves using the phone - on V3 this is possible

Possible but troublesome from all reports. I haven't played with it myself but photon isn't the first person I've heard reporting issues with that feature.

Have you gotten it to work well? With what kinds of phones?

Known Avaya Bug
As per fedback document on V3.0 Release notes
Ref 21988 Labekkung keys on 5429 Via the keypad is not kept in config after a reboot

Scheduled for fix in Maintanence release.

The problem seems to be Manager.

User entered relabelling of buttons appears in the button programmaing Telephone Number field using the /MyButtonTxt format.

However for some functions Manager doesn't like this extra info in that field and displays the field and function as blank. So when the config is sent back the button becomes blanked.

It doesn't affect all functions, currently on my known list are bridged, line and call coverage buttons.

Relableing on the phone itself is really simple, and easy. Tried it on 5410/20s and it's quick and simple. Some of the users even did it without asking how to do it!!

IpGuru, You mention the Avaya feedback doc. Were can I find this, Iv looked on there web....I must be blind

Thanks

It was sent to all the trial partners
I have also placed a copy in the public(anonymous log on)area of my ftp server

I have a question...I thought that in R3 of IPO you could label the buttons on the 46xx and 56xx series sets as well. I have successfully done it on a 5420. I will try it through the Manager on the 4620 sets. The 4620 will not let you change button labels at the set.
