I have an older IPO running 5.026

We have a bunch of extra phones. When we plug in a 5420 we see please wait... No matter what port, main unit or expansion unit.
The phone says 5420D .. Rel 4.00 I can monitor the TFTP in manager, no joy. I have the same trouble with 5410/2410.

I've manager setup with bin file 5420_r6 in the directory. I found some other bin files R4 and R2 only today. Will put them in the directory too?

I recall in the past at this site we had to do a reboot to get some new phones up and running. Is a reboot in order? I chose not to reboot as it was Friday at 4:30 and I wasn't pushing my luck on this old system.

Previously the only control over the upgrading of 5410 phones was controlled by the use of the turn_on.bat and turn_off.bat batch files installed with the Manager application.
You need to run the turn_on.bat file and then you also need to have a NoUser source number "ALLOW_5410_UPGRADES" without the quotation marks

5.0.26 needs R6.0 phone firmware

forget the 2.0 and 4.0

thanks for the quick response.

I added the ALLOW_5410_UPGRADES under NoUser..no joy

But I did not try turn_on.bat. I will try that.

Do I need an older version of manager running? I think I am at 9.0.12

Is a reboot then not necessary?

any version will do.
The turn_on.bat is in the Manager directory of every version.

You have to adjust with the IP address but when you edit the .bat it is in the description

Yes a reboot is needed after running the batch file

Yep that is it.

especially the part of disabling it again otherwise all phones upgrade after EVERY reboot again. :)

I never worked with 54xx but with 14xx and 95xx the IPO delivers firmware only once on each DS port. You can reset that counter by doing a reboot of the IPO.

i guess i run turn_off.bat to disable?

many thanks.

@derfloh
The 5400 series phones had a flaw or better - Avaya screwed up the firmware downloads - twice LOL

1st issue they had was that the phones didn't download the firmware properly
2nd issue was when they fixed the non-downloading with something that then in return caused the phones to download the firmware every time the system rebooted and it took of course 15 - 20 minutes until the phones became operational again.
Somewhere in R2.0 or 2.1 if I remember correctly

Then they fixed the issues by having the 2 step setup to enable the firmware download

the good thing is that there are only 3 releases of firmware for it so that they didn't need to upgrade a lot and R5.0 and R6.0 are almost identical just adding Chinese characters to the phones.

Are you sure you have a tftp server configured and available?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

It worked! Thanks for your help.

I did not use turn_on.bat or turn_off.bat. I added ALLOW_5410_UPGRADES the other day.

I saw the error that the 5420 was looking for 5420_r6.bin and I only had 5420_r4.bin in my manager directory.

I renamed 5420_r4 to 5420_r6.bin and bingo it updated and worked.

I then removed ALLOW_5410_UPGRADES
