Hi,

We are trying to set up a server that has two NICS that are teamed, with each going to separate 5406zl switches which are bound together using VRRP. However, the ping is extremely inconsistent. We think a setting needs to be added to the switch to allow this to work. Does anytone know how to do this?

I don't think your issue is with the switch, I think you are wanting to do what HP refers to as "Dual Channel Load Balancing" and I think the only way to get that to work is with what they use to sell called the "Intelligent Networking Pack" for their server NIC(s). This opened up the teaming software to those advanced functions beyond just load balancing, and switch assisted load balancing. For some reason HP has discontinued that product with no replacement. See link below and find their flow chart on desired teaming and redundancy to see:

I personally have not set up VRRP on HP switches but have done HSRP on Cisco and seems like I ran into this also before a year or two back.

You might want to touch base with HP on this one.

Hope I pointed you in the right direction.
