Hi was wondering if it's possible to use the 5330(40) conference module on a 5312(24) phone instead of the normal side module?

I don't think so cause the 5330(40)'s have softmenus that enable and disable it whereas the 5312(24) doesn't hence the need for the side module.
maybe someone has tried this?

3300 system running latest software level

found a unit to test, result:
in fact it can't work, there's a cable from the back of the module that needs to connect to the phone.

on the 5312/24 there's no place to connect this cable.

Actually, I have gotten one to work on a 5324. You don't need the ribbon cable used for connecting the module to the 5330/5340 sets. Just install the module as is.

You are right in that there is no softmenu to operate the unit and that confused me at first as well. I actually sent the part back thinking I needed the side control to make it work. You have to press the speakerphone button on the 5324 to operate the conference unit. Use the volume keys on the phone as well to control the unit.

What makes you think that you have time to fix it?

thanks for that paterson,
are you saying that the side module is no longer even supported or is it a matter of choice?

thanks

I was dealing directly with Mitel and they said that the 53xx module was to be used for ALL 53xx series phones. Would have been nice if there were user guides that actually show how to use the conference phone on the 5313/24 sets!!! I kinda stumbled into how it works.

That being said, I do know that the old side control will fit and will work on the 5312/24 phones because I tried it. The side control goes in the headset jack, so really it is only emulating a headset. I couldn't say for certain if it is supported or not.

One nice thing about the module was that you don't need a separate power supply to run it like the side control.

semi-related

there is a technical bulletin which suggests that original conference side controller 50004461, for 5220 and 5224 won't work in the 5324:

Article ID # 09-5173-00060

Article Type: Technical Bulletin

Article Title:New Version 2 PKM Modules and 5310 Conference Unit Interfaces are required if installing PKM's and 5310 conference saucers on the new 5324 sets.

Publish Date: Apr-23-2009

5310 Conference Unit New Version 2 Part 50005321
Description :
New module Version 2 5310 Conference Unit 5235, 5324,5330 and 5340 Part 50005321

Previous 5310 Conference unit Interface Part number Part 50004461 for 5220 AND 5224

My understanding is:

50004461 is the unit which screws to the right hand side of the phone.

It is not the unit which goes in the back of the phone (where the Ethernet plugs in), on 5325/5330/5340

50005321, 5310 IP Conference Module (5300 series)

Goes in the back of a 53xx (we've only used in 5340)
contains small cable with 4 connectors (straight through to go inside phone).

When using this the conference saucer doesn't then require a PSU (as it used to, when using the conference side controller on 5220/5224s)

yes, you can connect a 5310 conference unit directly to the same module used for a 5330/5340/5325 which goes in the back of the 5324. In my humble opinion, this combination (5324, 50005321, and 5310) is the simplest by far to train a customer on.
on my first install, I too thought I had the wrong pieces as I didn't have the side piece I was used to on a 5224. I looked in the newest Userguide for 5312/5324 and it explained how to use it without the optional mouse. You simply press the Speaker/vol up/vol down/mute/cancel keys at the top right corner of the phone. the phone detects the 5310 module and automatically turns it on when you press the speaker key. the only thing you lose is the "presentation" mode if you don't have the optional mouse.
much more intuitive for the customer than having to press a conference key on the 5330/40 and then having to use different keys than what they are used to to turn it on or off or adjust the volume.

ok that settles it then, the unit is supported.
thanks input all.
