Hi All,

Rather interesting discovery.....

All Mitel documentation states these sets are only compatible on release 9 software and above.

However I have now had these sets working across 3 different sites on release 8 software configuring them as 5212's / 5224's.

On one site they have been inplace for several months and the customer hasnt reported any issues - I came across this accidentally we were shipped incorrect phones ordered 5212s but customer recieved 5312s, we configured as 5212s, the customer installed and hey presto they worked!!

Clearly this wont be recommeded / supported but thought I would share my findings - keen to know if anyone has found similar.

Hi James, this is a supported feature. The 5312 & 5324 replaced the 52xx phones you can no longer buy 52xx and backwards compatibility was built in.

Hi Bob, that contradicts with all Mitel info slightly.

The extract below is from the datasheet:-

System Requirements:
• 3300 ICP release 9.0 (UR1) or later
• SX-200 ICP release 4.0 (UR5) or later
• 5000 CP release 3.0 or later
• Teleworker Solution release 5.0 (Mitel Applications
Suite (MAS) release 1.2; Mitel Multi-Protocol Border
Gateway release 5.0)
• SIP release 7.2 or later

I called UK support this morning and they stated the phones are not designed to work on release 8 - it was news to them, as far as they are aware they are not backward compatible.

I thinks Mitel may have made a mistake.

I recall seeing in the docs somewhere that 5312's could be programmed as 52xx series phones but I think the min software level had to be 8 UR3 or 4.

When programmed like this, the full duplex speaker does not work, it's still half duplex

My guess would be that the 5312/24 is close enough to the 5212/24 that it can get by on the other sets firmware.

There may be no i in team but there are three f's in fudge off.
