Have any of you had a chance to play with the new 5235 phones yet? If so, what do you think? They look pretty sharp but it almost appears that the display is a bit busy, but I haven't seen one up close yet. If the display is larger than I think it is then it might be just fine.

You may not find many (any?) of these in the pipeline yet John. 3300 Rls 6 is one of the requirements for the 5235 to function and that software load has only been available for download for a few days. I know Graybar did not have any 5235 sets as of last Monday the 25th. I'm kind of wondering what they're going to cost (MLP). Looks like several interesting new feats in rls 6 as well. The 3300 CX & CXi controller looks to be simply a relabelled 200CX, with no greater capacity than its sibling, but at least US Domestic Mitel dealers will finally be able to get their hands on this one without having to be a Sprint Products Group (SPG) dealer. The SDS feature will sure be handy and is nice in that it doesn't require clustering. Also the config tool allows you to literally blow in a bunch of users and sets from an Excel (csv) file. The new 1400 user controller will appeal to large sites. Lots more in 6.0 as well, but I think the best little bauble is Call History for the lower end IP sets functionally similar to what's been available in the 5140 and 5240 IP appliance sets since the beginning.

I'm wondering about the 3300CX. That might be a good fit for our smaller sites. The Mitel VAR we're working with was originally suggesting an MX controller but I think the CX would work just as well and it might be cheaper. However, I have no idea if it is missing something from the MX model that we would require.

Hi Guys,

I configured my first version 6 today and is very nice thus far. I like the additional maintenance features like embedded digital trunks trouble shooting you can at a glance your config your layers status and such like. I also like the voice configuration form where if you enable this you can monitor your extensions conbversations on the network and spot any packet loss, delay and jitter.

I think so far the things not available on the cx/cxi to note in relation to the mx are no dual fim support therefore no peripheral cabinets no ASU (only onboard AMB/AOB specific type for the cx/cxi)and obviuosly only a maximum of 64 devices

Someone once told me that they thought the CX & CXi did not support IP trunking, but I'm pretty sure it _DOES_ because it is virtually a clone of the 200CX and the 200CX I know for sure supports 24 IP trunks.

The 3300CX most certainly supports IP trunking. I'm not very familiar with the product but I do know that.

The CX and CXi do do (haha, you said "dodo"!!!) IP trunking. Like mentioned above they do not support FIM's, so no per nodes/asu's for you! They *do not* support MSDN on the available T1 module. The only way to integrate with another system is via ip trunking. As for being a clone to a 200ICP, in looks yes, but in software, obviously not. It is a 3300 at heart, once you've looked at one, you can program the rest.

As a "technical FYI" both the SX-200 ICP CX and 3300 CX are the exact same hardware. On the SX-200 ICP MX and 3300 MX, LX, the hardware is almost the same. They are extemely minor hardware differences and eventually (by Q1/06) they will be the exact same hardware. So the only difference will be software.

That's interesting. Finally after 20+ years of having totally separate design teams that would park at opposite ends of the lot and barely share the same coffee bar, the 200 and 2000 (nee, 3300) meld together as one product, differentiated only by software. What's Terry up to? Any more updates to the HP rumors?

only rumors I've heard about Mitel and HP were that their engineers were working together to make a switch that was espcially compatible with mitel pbxs. Whats with mitel and sprint now?????? All the stuff my dealer is giving me says sprint on it but he says its still the same as mitel and is manufactured by them but sprint paid them to do it or something?

The only reason Mitel is producing "Sprint Branded" equipment is due to legal reasons (from what I have been told/hear-say).

I have not heard anything that HP and Mitel working together on a switch and to be honest I would find it hard to believe. Mitel is busy in the design offices and labs working on some near new stuff.

There are big things on the horizon for Mitel. They are working on some pretty good/big stuff. Mitel is working hard and I think (know) you are going to see some really cool stuff that will position them well. Mitel is a lot more customer friendly (i.e. they actually bring to market what customers ask for – more so then the other 2 or 3 manufactures).

Recent Latrine-O-Gram circulating HP/Compaq Hdqs down in Texas had one or the other as potential interested suitor of the other. Story was just bizarre enuf to be genuine. Similar L.O.G. was heard in a sales meeting in Kanata a month or 2 prior almost verbatim. Maybe nothing to it, tho amusing to consider.

Well, if that was the case, it would be HP after Mitel and not vice-versa. I know there has been a number of US and Canadian investors dump some money in Mitel.

Problem is HP seems to be circling the drain, just laid off several thousand of their loyal employees trying to stay afloat. If 20-lb turkeys were selling for 10¢ apiece, right now HP might have trouble buying a chance on kissing a jaybird's backside. They're in trouble.

I think the company will turn around. They need to focus on what they use to do best, printers. Also, they need to focus on the ProCurve line more. The line is the best competition for Cisco (ABC = Anything But Cisco). Give them time, it will turn around.

Mitel is much, much, much smaller then HP, so it won't be Mitel purchasing HP. I know for sure, Mitel is building it's self right now for a IPO. We have heard it many-many times before. Look for something 3 years from now. SIP has to solify more as a standard before they can make the company (Mitel) sellable (stock, IPO).

Watch for Mitel to do a lot of work on the desktop and in the SIP protocol.
