Hi

3300 CXI on very old software 7.0.9.5

I have seen many posts about FTP'ing IP phone firmware to a controller but I am not entirely sure of the process. Can anyone please point me in the right direction. Basically step by step instructions on how to do this.

I have scoured all documents but not been able to find a document that describes the procedure.

We have sent two replacement 5212 IP phones on 02.04.00.07 firmware. These go through the boot up process downloading then comes up with blank screen rather than enter PIN

The working phones on site have 02.00.00.19 firmware.

Thank you

You would ftp to the controller address using a login with decent access. The firmware would be in /tftp if not mistaken. Usually don't mess with the default Mitel versions, but YMMV and I have certainly added some files for sip devices in later versions than yours but it is the same process.

You shouldn't upgrade the phone firmware past what's on the controller already, that could lead to problems. As far as downgrading your replacement sets to the proper firmware, maybe try throwing them in SIP mode temporarily and then back to MiNET mode? If that doesn't work, double check your DHCP settings to ensure the phones are seeing the TFTP server (internal on the 3300 controller) correctly.

If setup corretly, I would think the sets would downgrade. Yes try defaulting the phones. I'm also of the opinion that keeping things at the default level is a good idea. I have done much testing as to running newer levels on older platforms but might have some time to look at it. I don't see why there is a update if it wasn't to fix something. Also I think the current shipping sets won't downgrade anymore, may have misread some tech bulletins though.

Hi all

Thanks for the responses

We are proposing an upgrade to the software on the 3300 now.

It's interesting that the phones can see the controller / tfpt and begin to download then freeze on a blank screen. We have tried defaulting the phone but same issue. I will try setting them to SIP and back to Minet

Seems to be borne out in practice.

You could try hosting the files locally on a tftp server. I think even upgraded phones would function without a software downgrade. If you have access, look around MCD version 4, there is an update for firmware for 5312-24 series. You could try to flash to that load on a locally hosted tftp server. Another thing to try is putting a static value for the tftp that isn't the phone system. Then the phone would boot using current firmware.

I had to do this for a 5000 system where they wouldn't downgrade, and it worked for me.
