Hi all,

im not sure if im possting to the right section but i have a few things i need to know about the 5212 and 5312 telephone.

I am hearing the term dual mode in relation to these telephones. My understanding of this means that the telephone can boot in two ways, as a system telephone for using on the mitel 3300 / 5000 telephone systems and in SIP mode for using with a SIP or hosted provider - is this correct?

In SIP mode does this mean that the telephone does not need to be communicating with a Mitel system but can work with any hosted provider. If so im finding it difficult to get a provider that they work on. anyone know a provider especially UK/Ireland where they work

Is this function just available on 5312 or does 5212 also have it?
Is it software dependent or does specific firmware need to be loaded to the phone making it SIP compatible.

A bit long winded i know but any answers much appreciated

regards

Dual mode does mean that the phone supports both the Mitel proprietary Mitai protocol and the SIP protocol. You can ( in SIP ) mode connect to any SIP service provider or SIP PBX. Not 100% sure it is available on the 5212 but I think it is ( check on the be sure ).

Note: On the 5220 phones they actully had "dual" next to the model number on the back of the phone to indicate that the phones could operate in either mode. If the label didn't say "dual" then the phone worked in Mitai only.

The phone should have the SIP firmware although updates have been avaialbe from Mitel.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

The modes are not automatic. You must enter the boot menu and change the mode manually.
