What are the differences in functionality between the 5060, 4100 and 4060 firewalls?
Currently a SonicWall PRO 3060 is in use, however because of the added (specifically Single Sign-On User Authentication and HTTPS Filtering) features in Enhanced 4.0 firmware, an updated is needed, mainly to keep just students out of https proxies.

I can see the differences between the 3060 and the higher models but if there is a real need to get the 5060 compared to the 4060 when the 3060 satisfied the network size?

Thank You, I appreciate the feedback. At any given moment there would be 300 students, 70 teachers and staff, maybe 15 VPN users, all max numbers, because of that I am leaning towards the 4060 and 4100 models. I just don’t want to find myself in the same dilemma I find myself in right now, having to upgrade from something that’s already works (3060), just because I require an OS update.

If all you want is the OS update, there's no need to move to a 4060 or better--4.0 is in beta for the 2040 and 3060, and is supposed to be released at some point this year (though Sonicwall's last guidance on the issue was 1Q07, or six months ago.)

The beta appears fairly stable (most of the bugs seem to be related to failover) so if you absolutely must have this feature now, you could try testing the beta in your environment (just make sure to backup the current image before booting the beta...)

Be advised that you will not gain much over the 3060 unless you go to the 4100. The 4100 more than doubles the throughput across the board over the 3060, and offers a gigabyte lan connection which the 4060 does not.
