Hi, I have an internal web server where i have a number of sub domains setup eg. dave.company.com, dave2.company.com.

I have no internal DNS server setup so when users type in these sub domains they go out on the internet, so I am manually using their localhosts file, can I amend the PIX to route these sub domains to my internal machine?

Thanks alot.

Dave

The PIX does not act as a DNS server in any way. It merely forwards DNS requests to another DNS server. So, in essence, you'll either need to set up an internal DNS server, or add those sub-domains to your ISP DNS server (which is typically not a good idea). Essentially, the PIX won't be able to do what you're asking.

On the plus side, DNS is pretty easy to set up and free on most major OS, so you could probably do it in an afternoon. It also adds a lot of convenience.

HI.

The best solution is as mentioned above - implement an internal web server (for internal use).

Another solution is to use the "alias" command in conjunction with "sysopt noproxyarp inside", or to use the "dns" option of the "static" command.
