50070 Error

Hi, I keep getting a #50070 error in my event log saying:

Unable to connect to the database STS-Config on
MBS1\Sharepoint. Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running.

I don't use sharepoint, MBS1 is the former name of my server, how can I stop this?

I have tried MS KB article 840685 and it doesn't fix it.

Any Ideas?
