I have a new customer that has a 5 slot setup with an ACS center (of course) and following left to right the following modules: 400E, Mail VS and finally a 206E and the last slot open.

If I am correct it should be setup as follows: ACS, 206, Mail VS and then the 400E? I was taught to have the 400 mods after the VM mod. Well simply the ext's go to 17 and jumping to 30 within the office with users on the 30 & 31st ext with the screwy setup that I walked into. And I think it is causing the VM to act a little weird being on ext's 28 & 29. So is it worth setting it up the way I mentioned? Or is it fine the way it is if the customer doesn't mind the ext number jump?

Actually can I put the Mail VS in the slot to the right of the ACS or must it remain in the second slot? I would like to make the Mail VS ext's 34 & 35 if possible? So the setup scenario here would be:

ACS, 206, 400 and then the Mail VS lastly with the last slot left open.

First, yes it's best to keep the Voice Mail card AFTER all the station cards, so that there is not a gap in the extension dial plan.

VS mail, ACS, and 400 cards don't always play nice together, so I think I would still keep the 400 card AFTER the VM mail.

The voice mail counts as an 006, so it doesn't cause your CO ports to jump about.
