I just finished installing Exchange 2010 to co-exsist with a Exchange 2003 server. I setup a Internal Send connector last night and moved 2 mailboxes over to new exch2010 server.

Had no problems yesterday afternoon and last night. A user reported this morning they received a Undeliverable message back from one of our clients. to my knowledge this is the only issue. I need help solving.

Here is the contents of the email and the error attached to it; I removed email addresses for privacy...

I've removed the Send connector on Exchange 2010... for now.

can anyone help me? my domains are not blacklisted. I checked.

internal" Send Connector?

If you have a SMTP connector on the 2003 side, and the proper Routing Group Connectors, you don't NEED more connectors. Mail sent from 2010 mailboxes should go across the RGC and out the 2003 connector.

correction - I created a Internet send connector.

I verified and on the exch2003 server, there is a Routing Group connector between exch2003 server and exch2010 server.

I've since removed the send connector, but emails don't seem to be routing out correctly. This problem exists only for users with mailboxes on exch2010. I am able to send email internally, but when a user with mailbox on exch2010 server sends a external email, the email gets stuck in the "Unreachable Domain" queue with a error;

-----Identity: EXCH1\Unreachable\1268

the only way I can get external emails to go out from exch2010 is to create a internet send connector. Doing so causes issues with the users still on exch2003... get the 5.7.1 emails or the external recipients just arent getting the message as they get the same error " a matching connector cannot be found to route to external recipient".

still cant figure out why users with MB on exchange 2010 cant send external emails... they can send and receive internal as well as receive external emails.

Any ideas?

I figured this out...

We had some old fax software on the 2003 exch server that I removed, as it had created a SMTP connector that was causing problems. I then created a new SMTP connector on 2003 exch and BAM!!!!! Im now sending mail all the way around.

I kinda spoke to soon... I am able to send emails froma 2010 mb to an external user... but the replies do not come back... get a 5.3.5 error;

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

exchtest@domain.com

Status: 5.3.5
X-Display-Name: exchtest

any ideas???

resolved by modifying each smtp virtual server in all routing groups to use the specific address of each server instead of "all unassigned".
