Anyone know why IBM has withdrawn ML 5? i got a short blurb from a reseller that oracle boxes should not install this level, but no explanation.

ML 5 is no longer showing up on IBM's fix delivery website.

If you need to update your AIX operating system, IBM and Oracle recommend updating to the Concluding Service Pack for Technology Level 4 (5300-04-CSP).

Customers running Oracle products on AIX 5.3 should not update to Technology Level 5 (5300-05) at this time.
A future notification will be made available when AIX 5L 5.3 Technology Level 5 is a recommended level for customers running Oracle products. "

that's the same text that i received, but it doesnt explain the impact or efix availablity schedule

Here is what a pSeries rep emailed me.

1. TL 5 can result in corruption when running oracle.

2. It is highly recommended that those customers that are running Oracle products that have upgraded to TL5 to downgrade to TL4 and run dbverify to make sure there are no database corruption issues.

I'm not impacted by it, but that's what I got forwarded on.

I would recommend contacting support before doing anything.

from support:

So far we have not found the root cause of the problem.
It is still under investigation. BUt if you see the
problem, the only option is to go to TL04+CSP. We do
have some customers at TL05 and running Oracle
sucessfully.

There have been similar problems in the past with Oracle DB file corruption due to heavy load on asyncIO subsystem on a certain AIX os-level. Makes me wonder if maybe a similar (or the same old?) bug in asyncIO has somehow resurfaced.
