Hello,

I've got an oracle volume group and I'm looking to increase the size of the oracle mount points from 200gb to 300gb but it's failing. There is over 350gb of available space in the volume group and I'm assuming this is a limitation of the volume group, would you agree?

The error message from WSM is as follows:-

extendlv: maximum allocation for logical volume ora2 is 805.

Below is details of the Oracle volume group:-

lsvg Oracle
VOLUME GROUP: Oracle VG IDENTIFIER: 00c7f33400004c0000000124bf46fc41
VG STATE: active PP SIZE: 256 megabyte(s)
VG PERMISSION: read/write TOTAL PPs: 4368 (1118208 megabytes)
MAX LVs: 256 FREE PPs: 1388 (355328 megabytes)
LVs: 6 USED PPs: 2980 (762880 megabytes)
OPEN LVs: 6 QUORUM: 5 (Enabled)
TOTAL PVs: 8 VG DESCRIPTORS: 8
STALE PVs: 0 STALE PPs: 0
ACTIVE PVs: 8 AUTO ON: yes
MAX PPs per VG: 32512
MAX PPs per PV: 1016 MAX PVs: 32
LTG size (Dynamic): 1024 kilobyte(s) AUTO SYNC: no
HOT SPARE: no BB POLICY: relocatable

Any suggestions on how to get round this would be great?

worse case scenario is that I create a few more 100GB oracle files systems!

Your error message is "extendlv: maximum allocation for [red]LOGICAL VOLUME[/red] ora2 is 805."

see man chlv on how to change this LV parameter. (chlv -x)

Hello,

The chlv -x worked great thanks!

How do I list the amount of LP's that are available for allocation?

From lsvg output above
[tt]...
VG PERMISSION: read/write TOTAL PPs: 4368 (1118208 megabytes)
MAX LVs: 256 [red]FREE PPs: 1388 (355328 megabytes)[/red]
...[/tt]

on nonmirrored LVs
[tt]1 LP = 1 PP[/tt]
on mirrored LVs
[tt]1 LP = 2 PPs (on two different PVs)[/tt]
on 3way-mirrored LVs
[tt]1 LP = 3 PPs (on three PVs)[/tt]

HTH,

p5wizard

That makes sense:)

Thanks for all your help on this!

Regards

Nick
