I have a Merlin Legend Processor and a 408ATL board that is running only 4 extensions with BIS10 phones. I have 4 lines coming in and the 4th line doesn't ring. I have just purchased this and replaced an old 820 system that finally died. I thought that the processor that I just obtained was able to handle 4 lines without programming......am I wrong? Is there a default mode that will do this or how do I program this?

IF - your system was fully defaulted - after installation - then all 4 lines would automatically be assigned to all phones. If you are in the default "KEY" operating mode - you can go to any phone - press the Inspect key - and then press each of the buttons (in the 2 columns by the desi label) to see what lines are currently assigned - and whether they are set to Immediate Ring. The default button lit red should be the 3rd button up from the bottom left column. If you press Inspect and touch that button - it should say Line 802-I. The I stands for immediate ring. The next button up should display as 802-I, the top button as 803-I. The bottom button in the next column to the right would be Line 804-I. If that button displays as blank - you need to add line 4 through system programming. Press Home after looking at your buttons - to get out of Inspect mode - and report back on your findings.

Thank you for the information!! However my phones don't have an inspect button or anything. Is there a way to default the processor manually? I don't see how I can do any programming.

You can do programming via WinSPM software. Otherwise you need to get a 408 MLX or 008 MLX module - and also an MLX-20L Operator/Programming phone.

You can manually "default" the processor as well - but to do so - you will need to shut the system down - remove the processor module, pop the tabs to open up the case (using a flat-blade scredriver) - flip the case over - remove the top - rotate the processor module so the edge connector is facing you - and now remove the small black jumper that connects two pins together below the two large round capacitors on the lower left. Leave the jumper removed for about 40 seconds - then put it back - reassemble the module - reinstall it - reconnect power - and fire it up - the processor should have a capital F on it's led - verifying that you are doing a Full-Erase restart - which will set the system back to factory specs and rerecognize your installed modules.

Nice details on tearing apart your processor!

What about using the Full-Default Erase procedure thru maintenance menu...

Since he doesn't have an MLX module, nor an MLX-20L - nor WinSPM - there is NO WAY for him to get into ANY programming menus. So the ONLY way he has available to default the processor - is manually.

Although you don't have an Inspect button on the BIS-10 telephones, you DO have the slide switch on the side of the set, which will put it in the program mode. From there, you should be able to press each line and see on the display what it is. You may find Line 804-N, and if so, change it to Immediate Ring by dialing *37

I'm wondering if you are confusing the 3 System Access buttons for Lines 1 through 3 and assuming that the 4th button up should be "line 4

TouchToneTommy - I doubt his system was in Hybrid/PBX mode - since he had no way to program it. He described this as a recent purchase and installation.

However, how would we know that there was no "GHOST" programming in the system? - - Considering it was used.

Therefore, I agree with the Manual Default process.

- - Or, he could contact an expert..........
