hi there, hp proliant dl380 g5 server with 4gb ram, during power on self test, detected all 4gb ram, however after boot into 32bit windows server 2003 sp1, it said only got 3.25gb

wondering if this is normal or not? how to fix? many thx!

I've seen this in one of our servers. We installed another 1 GB of RAM and the amount showing up in W2K3 seemed less that before. After carefully checking it out, it turned out that the hardware was "stealing" the RAM for itself in order to improve system performance. This was changed via a BIOS change.

Basically it's cause your using 32-bit. Get 64-bit to take full advantage of 4Gb or more of RAM.
