470, 3 VLANs, and an issue

I have to be missing something simple on this...

I have a 470 with 3 vlans, 1(default), 2(for basic users), 3(for special users).

This 470 is connected to an 8600.

Now, here comes the fun. vlans 2 and 3 are different networks and need to be.

I have configured the 8600 with the vlans and IP for each vlan. On the 470 I have all the ports in vlan1 and selected ports in vlans 2 and 3 that do not step on each other. I am not using AutoPVID since my vlans numbers are predetermined as per our IP scheme, so I am making the PVID the same as the VLAN...

My issue is that when I TAG the port on the 8600 my 470 stops responding...

I can also say that the 470s address is one that is in vlan 2, not the default. But I figured that this should not be an issue since the 8600 is routing.

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas...

Here is a brief rundown of my goal. I am changing IP schemes and for the time being a few select computers MUST remain on current network scheme. Basically I want to change the IP of the 470 and all the users but these few. I figured that VLANs should let this happen... I am just missing something.

Thanks!!

You still have to set VLAN 2 on the 470 to be the management VLAN.

Also...I assume that you are enabling tagging (make the port a "trunk port") on the 470 uplink port and that all VLAN's are bound to that port as well as the 8600 port?

Also...make certain that the PVID of each port is set correctly. Per your message, the PVID of the uplink port as well as the 8600 port should be the VID for VLAN 2.

To make sure we're on the same page: Do the users VLANs work and just not the management interface on the 470? If that is the case then you need to make sure "Management VLAN" is set to "Yes" you have VLAN 2 selected.

If your users are having trouble you'll need to double-check that the uplink port on the 470 is a member of all three VLANs and set to be a tagged interface as well, and of course the VLAN ids have to match on the 470 and 8600.
On the 8600 side you'll have to specifically say "perform-tagging enable" on the port/MLT and add the port/MLT to all of the VLANs.

Thanks a lot guys!!

I had it all right except for making my 2nd vlan the default vlan!
