Hey guys - so we have a 7 site SCN in which we just upgraded all our IPO systems to the latest R11.0.4.58. We use only 9608/9611G phones. Because it was always a pain to upgrade phones across 7 different sites, we manually specified a HTTP server on every phone - and anytime we needed phone firmware updates, we just replaced the firmware on the HTTP server. The same went for the 46xxsettings.txt file (which we used to modify screensavers, backlights, etc. However - now that we upgraded to R11 / I see it is recommended to use the 46xxspecials.txt file to do any modifications, and let the phones pull the 46xxsettings file directly via the IPO auto-generated.

My question is this - because all of our 200+ 96xx phones have a manually set HTTP server, they are always gonna try to use that HTTP server for the firmware & settings files. Is there any way without going to each and every phone and removing the HTTP server address; to have the phones start pulling the autogenerated 46settings file from the IPO, and not the current manually set HTTP server? Or if we simply remove the 46settings.txt file from the HTTP server, would they start pulling the autogenerated file from their own IPO; even though we have a different HTTP server address set on the phone?

Can we still use the seperate HTTP server that is set on the phones, to pull the newer phone firmware (when we update it), but yet have the phone pull the 46xxsettings & 46xxspecials files via the IPO?

Thanks for the advice...

Perhaps this isnt anything to be concerned of since we currently only have 96xx phones? Going forward we will be using J179s, but we can just be sure we DO NOT specify a seperate HTTP server on these phones so that they will pull the autogenerated file.
