4621SW phones stuck in vlan mode.
I hope I don't regret buying used phones. I was hopeing to save a couple bucks.
Here is the problem. Phone powers up gives me the usual prompts but it will not let hit * to make changes and gives me the vlan id. I set up a vlan, power up the phone and it comes up. I still cannot enter the clear or reset procedure to get it back to default condition. Any suggestions

4allcom - sorry was looking for anything relative to my post...when phone comes up - as it is acquiring an IP Address (via DHCP - I am assuming) - you should be able to press '*' in order to change the parameters of the phone's settings.

if the phone only boot in a vlan then you'll have some work:

create a vlan on your switch and put a pc with manager running and a free ware dhcp server on it.
start the phone and it will get a ip address from the dhcp server, then the phone will load first the 46xxupdate.scr file and the it will laod the 46xxsettings.txt file.
In the 46xxsettings.txt file you must have those three lines without pounds in front:
SET OPSTAT 111
SET PROCSTAT 1
SET PROCPSWD ""

The first line neables a user to change phone settings using the oprion button when operational, the second option enables the PRESS * TO PROGRAM option and the third option erases the password for the previous option.
After a loading both files the phone will hang stating "finding gatekeeper" or "finding router".
Reboot the phone and then you can press * to program and change ip settings and VLAN.
the best thing to do is to press * and repeatedly press # until you see "enter command" then press the red HOLD button and 25327#
A message comes asking if you really want to erase all settings, confirm that and the phone will be on factory defaults.

Good luck

Well now there is some good material for a faq. I've seen quite a few peeps in here sniffing for the same information.

I really appreciate this, I will try it tomorrow.

Thank you

Is there a way to do this with an IP office 406 and a switch?

Yes if it is a switch were you can program VLANS.
Set up two switch ports fixed on VLAN 4 and another one were VLAN 4 is tagged.
Attach the 406 and you pc to the fixed ports on VLAN 4 and the phone to the tagged port.
Enable DHCP on the 406 and set the tftp address to the ip address of the PC.
Hav manager open on your PC and boot up the phone, it will get a ip address and additional info from the 406 and it will load the config text files.
