I'm seeing some strange behavior with an Avaya IP phone. I'm new to Avaya IP telephony, so I don't now if this is expected behavior or not. When I ping a 4602SW from a Cisco router or switch I see 33% packet loss. However, when I ping that same phone from a couple of different PCs, all pings succeed. The only difference I can think of is that a Cisco router or switch sends pings at a much faster rate than a PC.

Do Avaya IP phones do some sort of ICMP rate limiting?

Thanks,
John

Yes, they do in order to protect themselves

Interesting. I wish I had known that yesterday. I spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot it assuming that it was a network issue, but I could see no signs that anything was amiss.

Thanks!
John

Just FYI, an IPSI board will do the same thing...

Oops, this is not Definity forum....
