Just get the crypto version of code , it will have a k9 somewhere in the imagename. Put it on a tftpserver then just download it into bootflash: .

On the switch once you have it on the tftpserver issue the following.

copy tftp bootflash: hit enter

input tftpserver address , hit enter

enter the filename of the image, hit enter and it should take off .

SSH

input a domain name on the switch

enter the crypto key commands
"crypto key gen rsa"
enter key size, usually 1024 is adequate
this creates the keys .

Add ssh commands on your vty lines .

Thank ya senior!

Is there anyway to move over to the IOS software and get away from the CatOS? Or do you have to stay with CatOS with the 4500 series? I ask because that software above is from 2006...

Now for the IOS software I found was;

cat4000-i5s-mz.122-20.EWA4.bin

I guess my question really is which software should I be getting?

I don't want to lead you down the wrong path here , in your original note you posted a IOS version . Do a dir bootflash: , is it a catos like
cat4000-k9.8-4-11-GLX.bin or IOS ? If its catos then you are stuck with catos on the 4500 platform short of buying a new supervisor card , which would be a SUPERVISOR II + or higher which comes from the factory with IOS . Catos will support ssh version 1 only. Looking at your note it is a 4507 is probably IOS . Find a version preferrably as new as you can get it that supports SSH . which supervisor card do you have ?

I was going to say---those are IOS commands ...crypto key gen rsa.
SSH1 will let you generate 512 bit keys I believe, and SSH2 will go up to 2048 bit (takes a bit longer!).
