Hey,

we have a 44P-170 that will not boot off the OS disk. the OS was patched to AIX 5.2 ML4 recently, and has since had the latest firmware installed. we are suspecting a power outage over last weekend was when the problem started showing up.

i can boot off the install media with no problem, and hdisk0 shows up in the normal bootlist. can also import rootvg and mount its filesystems. removed as many filesets as i could in case the boot image was 'too large'. did notice the following error when attempting a disk boot:

unrecognized client program running

this shows up after the system exits the SMS menus, but only when booting off of hdisk0.

any clues?

thanks!

Hmm... Thats new.
I would get into the maintenance mode again, and run the generic fscks, rebuild the jfslog and attempt to recreate the boot image.
How far along do you get before this error pops up?
Is there anything in the LED display?

when rootvg imports while in MM it replays the filesystem logs for /var /tmp /, and /usr i beleive. so, i haven't done the fsck's by hand yet. think it might help?

the boot image has been re-created several times since the problem began; when i removed some device filesets, and at least once by the bosboot command.

the error msg shows up after the 'starting software' msg when the system is leaving the SMS menus. the LED shows E14D and then hangs on 'AIX is Starting'

Not much help, I know but I found this for E14D:
E14D Load boot image
Try a fsck, if that doesn't fix it have you tried an advanced diag (from CD) certify on the disk ?
Or boot MM and check out the errpt for disk problems.
