I have a new system, Magix R3.0, with a TDL card, I plugged 4424LD+ into extention 100, Phone works (dialtone, SA, ect..) but no display. I tried with and without the aux power supply that came with the phone, no help. I plugged a 4412D+ into the same extention and got an error message something like Invalid DLC. so I plugged them (4424LD & 4412D) into X101. The 4412D+ works fine but no display on 4424LD. I am new to TDL phones, am I missing something or do I have a bad phone.

You did have a 2 conductor; 1 pair RJ11 ...aka two gold thingies....going from the wall jack to the ac adapter and a 4 conductor; 2 pair RJ14 cord going from the ac adapter to the phone??

Yes, the TDL phones are nice in that they only need a single pair of wire from the Magix control unit, but the 4424LD+ (or other phones with a DSS attached) require auxiliary power from an AC adapter installed near the phone. The nasty part is that the phone becomes crippled in a power failure, even if you have the Magix on a UPS. (I much prefer switch-powered phones.

If a Central Office can send enough electricity down the wire to power all my house phones, you'd think a Merlin could power any of its phones. But no, almost every Merlin has had some phone situation that required a durned extra power supply.)

You must use a 4-wire cord from the 4424LD+ to the power nugget, and then can use a 2-wire cord from the nugget to the phone jack.

Make sure you use the correct power adapter for the phone; Material Code 108596412 is listed in the Magix manual as correct. If you've upgraded from something else, you might accidentally have other Avaya/Lucent or even other branded power adapters hanging around. Sadly, lots of phones need these damned nuggets.

Thanks for your help, it looks like I have tried all that you discribed and it didn't work. Bad aux power unit?

Bad phone or bad aux power or bad cord. Cord's the cheapest to change out if you don't have spare phones or spare power blocks.

But do be careful, because there are plenty of 2-wire cords masquerading as 4 wire cords. (The plugs are the same, so unless you look closely, it's easy to get a 2-wire cord thinking that it's 4-wire. And making 2-wire cords saves someone a penny, so they get stuffed into telecom products all the time.)
