I moved and replaced the jack for a 4424LD+ and DSS4450 unit.
When i pluged it in the display on the set was dead and the DSS is not working. what did i do wrong? I know nothing about AVAYA did I miss something?

I went back & checked the p/s. Checking the 2nd pair showed no pwr or short. Could it have been shorted & fried?

1 pair from jack to pwr. , 2 pair from pwr. to 4424LD

Do you mean w/bl-bl/w to system and w/or-or/w to pwr?
There is 2 pr. from the pwr to the BIX on ornge & green.
Blue pr jumps to system.
It was still punched at the BIX.
But the line cord to the phone was a 4 pin.
I only moved the jack end of the wire to the other side of the room, it's still the same wire.

There is a very remote chance that the VFD has died. But the power supply is probably shot if the AC outlet is alive and the cables are properly connected.

I don't know why the 2nd pair from the pwr supply is connected.

I have ordered a new pwr supply & will try it next week.
I've wired the jack standard USOC, hopefully that's right.

What cvrbob was saying is you need a single-pair line cord (or 2-pair works here, just overkill) going from the jack in the wall to the power supply. Then, from the power supply to the telephone you need a 2-pair line cord. If the cord going from the power supply to the telephone is only single-pair, the power is not being sent to the phone. If you look at the rj11 end of the line cord being used, you'll see if there are 2 wires (single pair) or 4 wires (2-pair).

I got the new power supply & connected it to the system. The phone display came up, but the DSS didn't. Did I miss something?

I know it's basic, but make sure the dss is on page 1. On the bottom 2 rows you'll see one button that's green. That's the page button. Make sure the left-most button is green and not either of the two to the right (page 2, page 3 respectively).

The DSS was never disconnected from the set.
So would that change anything?
Does it need to be remaped?
Would the set buttons change?

It shouldn't need to be remaped, but if someone accidentally pressed the page 2 or page 3 button, it won't work properly. Page one could be set to x100-x149, page 2 to x150 to x199, and page 3 to x200-x249 as an example. If they have nobody in extension range 150-199 and the dss is set to page 2, it will appear to not be working. If you change it back to page 1 (and users are in the x100-x149 in this example) then the buttons will light back up in accordance to the extensions.

So if I go in and just press the page button it should come back to life. Is there anything else I need to do?
The problem is I know absolutely nothing about AVAYA.
Give me a Nortel!

There is no button labeled page 1, 2 or 3.
There is a button on the lower left that is red.?

Push that button in the lower left, so that it turns off. That is the message button, which overrides the normal operation of the DSS. Then , the button immediately above it is the "page 1" button, and the buttons immediately to the right of that are page 2 and 3.

Thank you all. 2thumbsup
Life is good once again.
Where would we be without a little help from our friends?
