Hi

I have a 4250N with an optional duxplex unit.

The printers control panel sees the duplex unit. So does the printer driver on my server. When I print I can select the "print both sides" option and everything prints as expect.

But my problem comes when I want try and set the printer to always duplex print jobs as default. I can't edit the "default print settings" Quick Set. If i create a new one then I can't seem to make this the default set picked up by my WinXP clients when they install the printer.

Anyone know how to do this ?

Cheers

Set it on the control panel of the printer itself.

I have already turned on

Config Device : Printing : Duplex : ON

But it will still only duplex if I select it in the print properties

Ok you got me on this one. I know on the older model printers setting the duplex option to on from the control panel would force everything sent to the printer to duplex. Apparantly HP has changed how that function works now. Why I have no clue, it more/less defeats the purpose of having the option in the first place. Go figure.

I'll play with this when I can and see if I can come up with something that works.

Thanks. I'm out of the office today but wil try that on Monday.

I'll let you know what happens.

The general rule with most modern printers is that the order of precedence (highest first) for settings such as duplex is:

(a) application
But not all applications allow/maintain values.

(b) printer driver
Most printer drivers will send down initialisation sequences according to the stored preference settings, but (some of) these can be over-ridden by application-level settings.
But often only administrators can change default settings, especially on domains.

(c) printer front panel settings
Only if the application and/or printer driver has not sent down appropriate sequences in the print stream.
Hence these settings are often only relevant to simple print streams (as might be generated by DOS or older *n*x spoolers).

Hi Sweg

I've tried the Point and Print driver with the same effect. If I try and change the default Quick Set I have to create a new one and I can't seem to set my custom Quick Set as the defaut. :-(
