We have 3 new HP 4200 printers, connected to network. PCs and server running Win2000.

Our users are reporting that they keep losing the connection to these printers, the print icon disappears and/or the jobs queue, or there is an error 'printer not found'. Rebooting the PC usually cures it, but a couple of hours later it happens again.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Does that use the 10/100 nic cards?

As I've said numerous times in numerous other posts, if your cables are not wired correctly, or if there are flourescent lights or other RF noise emitting things around, the network may not be able to run properly at 100.

First thing to try is turn down the NIC speed on the printer, and see if it stays online then.
Throttle it down to 10-Half Duplex and see if your problem goes away. If it does, look at your cables.

Just my $.02
