Hi guys,

I have three network printers (jetdirect) and a NT server where they are "attached". All of them print fine if we try to print from win9x or NT, but XP is giving trouble. They can not even print a test page... well, one of them, the hp (laserjet all) 4050 can print. What I did with this printer was to add a driver for xp in "File->Server properties" of the pc, and then check "XP/2000 driver" in "Additional drivers" of the printer properties page. I tried to do the same with the other two printers: I installed the xp driver in "File->Server properties", and then tried to check "XP/2000 driver" in "Additional drivers", but a message appears: "No suitable printer driver was found".... help please!

Sometimes driver files are on the installation disk in a compressed format, so adding them won't work. Check the installation disk(s) for compressed files like ZIP, RAR, CAB or something and try to decompress them with WinZip

So if I unzip them, should I place them in the share print$ of the server?? Besides, this won't really solve the problem, as the printers does get installed in the pc's, but won't work because it is not using XP drivers, but the ones of NT.

Download a point and print bundle driver from HP.com as they contain a driver for multiple OS shared from the server. You can then install the driver by just pointing at the server as usual and the client will pick the appropriate driver from there.

Thank you hpwizzard... I don't want to sound like a stupid, but I can't find the point and print bundle for the 2300d and the 4200n... do you have the links? Thanks a lot!

Thank you dbmark. Tried everything in the article, tried the workarounds, but nothing worked. Any more ideas? I'm really getting desperate with this problem.

Well guys, I solved the problem. Best workaround: Install the printer as a local one, but add a standard tcp/ip port. This sends all data directly to the jetdirect, no overload over NT and no more troubles about drivers. Use this information, it can save a lot of time!!
