Hello,
I would like to convert a 408 GS DID line to a 012 line for a fax machine. I want to be able to send and receive faxes with an existing dedicated line. System: Merlin Legend with WinSPM software. Thanks for everyone's advice.

Just renumber the 012 port and the MLX port. That will bring the DID call to the analog port.

I'm new to WinSPM. I couldn't find the area in WinSPM to "renumber". Any suggestions?

Sys program > Exit > SysRenumber > Single > Extensions > then enter the extensions.
Say you want to switch Extensions 100 and 200, you'll need a "dummy" number in the process, so you'll have to pick one that is unused anywhere else, try this:
Renumber 100 to 768
Renumber 200 to 100
Renumber 768 to 200.
That will give you the idea of how to renumber extensions in your system, and switch things around a little.

There is always some confusion in terminologies when talking about Direct in Dial lines. On a 408 GS/LS card the lines are regular lines. A whole different set of scenarios has to take place if in fact the lines are on a 408 not an 800 DID card.

If the line to be used as a fax number is a regular line, you will have to make sure that the line is not in pool 70. Assign that line to the extension with immediate ring. Set auto line selection on that extension to pick that line first. If the line is to be used by other extensions as a backup outgoing line then you will have to make several other changes. Assuming that you are in the PBX mode, assign the line to another pool such as 895. (You can use pool number 890 thru 899). Go to extensions, lines and trunks and assign that pool to the extension that you want to use for the fax machine, and make it immediate ring and set auto line selection to pick that button first. You will then have to go to the ARS tables and enter the pool as sub b for local and long distance tables.
