4006's / PC's not renewing IP's at end of lease

I've got two Catalyst 4006 switches on one wing of a building (other wings have non-Cisco switches and are not having this problem). Several users are having to manually renew addresses on their workstations after their DHCP leases expire. Is this a switch config issue?

Just though of something:

Spanning tree takes around 30 seconds to activte the port. Winblows tries to init its ethernet very early and could fail to get to DHCP server automatically. Chances are that the user will do a manual request after 30 sec and the request would get to DHCP server.

Go to the ports and use portfast. ONLY USE PORTFAST ON THE PORTS GOING TO THE CLIENTS.


portfast lets the port go to active in around 3 sec.

I think this is your problem.

I verified that we do have portfast turned on.
