so I have an office I am installing an IPO system in. They are getting new DIDs. I am going to use the user's DIDs to inform their extensions (John Doe's DID 555-2011, extn 2011). Is there any benefit besides scalability to using 7 digit extensions to completely match the user's extension to their DID over just the 4 digit extension using the last 4 of the DID?

No benefit doing this really, the IPO can't scale that much even on server edition to require 7 digit extns, plus it just takes longer to dial and is harder to remember :)

For internal you can then create a short code xxxx/Dial extension/N

Great, thanks! I didn't think so. Only reason I asked is because I had it designed with 4 digit extensions and the client asked about matching the extensions to the DIDs (7 digit).

Personally I would do it with for digits. If you do 7 digits you could also think about 10...

The only reason I could think of doing seven digits would be if you have multiple locations with overlapping four digit DIDs.

If not four digits will be what the customer wants.

As a notice if anyone thinks about using long extension =)

IPO can't use more than 7 digits on H.323 base extension, SIP and DECT work with more.
User extension can be up to 15 digits although some restrictions apply.

Extension Range = 2 to 15 digits.
In general all extensions should have the same number of digits. This setting can be left blank for users used just for dial in data connections.
Users for Delta Server, CBC and CCC should only use up to 4 digit extension numbers.
Users associated with IP phones or who may log in as such devices should not be given extension numbers greater than 7 digits.
Centralized users’ extension numbers can be up to 13 digits in length. Although IP Office supports extension numbers up to 15 digits, the 13-digit length is determined by the maximum extension number length allowed for provisioning Centralized users in Communication Manager.

I have a lot of problems with Voicemail Pro and 6 digit extensions. This was on 7.0 software.
