4 channels of T1 going busy

Legend R7.0. T1 hits a Kentrox csu, splits 12 channels for LD and the rest for internet.

CO says they test the first 4 channels and everything looks ok, when they put back in service, they say our system busy's them out.

I get errors 8403, no disc. Then those first 4 channels go into maint. busy.

Any help? Could it be the Kentrox csu, causing the trunks to go into maint busy?

Well, how are these ports set up?

What is different with the 1st 4?

I would do a print of the T1 and see if there are obvious differences.

That would be a place to start.....

Tie trunks are all programmed the same. I guess its pointing to the cables or the Kentrox programming.

OK, we changed out the cables and all was fine for 2-3 weeks. Now its back.

All are set up as tie. Coming from a Straight T1, all 12 channels are exactly the same.

If I go into Monitor, it says the first 4 trunks are in Pool auto maint busy. If I trace them after putting them back in service, I see an error .... No EXT rel. for a while, then they go into maint busy.

Always just the first 4 trunks.

The vendor has got to be able to figure this out.

I would think a simple question of "WHAT IS DIFFERENT about THE FIRST 4 FROM THE OTHERS?" may pay dividends.

Considering you are able to use MONITOR, can you drop a LAPTOP off and let it run trace for a while?

That may tell us something.

But still, I think all things point to the vendor.

I have questions for you. How does the service provider have this provisioned? If they are using a digital cross-connect for channel breakout at the CO, then there is a possibility that those channels are configured wrong in the signalling department. They have their bits crossed!

Is the tie config you are using Wink-start, E/M?

Can the service provider signal and sense a Wink and pass test calls on these channels?

What Kentrox hardware are you using?

The no external release error, 8403, indicates a seizure or offhook condition from the CO.

A TRUNK 857 Slot/Port : 10/13 Toll
A Direction: 2 Way E&M Signal: Type1S Dialtone : Remote
A InType : Wink InMode : TouchTone AnsSupvr : 300 ms
A OutType : Wink OutMode : TouchTone Disconnect: 300 ms

This is the first trunk. all are set up identical.

They say they can take the channels out of service and test, but as soon as they put them back in service, they go into Maint busy.

You can rule the cable out. It does not do things like that to T1. When your provider tests what results do they get?

Any idea what kind of CO switch they have?

You didn't mention what Kentrox hardware you are using. How are the channels configured. Are the channels transparent? Sometimes they have options to do things to the signalling bits. I'm trying to rule out all your hardware.

Do you mind identifying the service provider?

The Provider is Norlight Communications. I think they are a local reseller. The Kentrox is the customers, last month they had a guy come in and made sure there were no updates for it.

I dont know the first thing about Kentrox, so I dont know the software release. I am to the point that I am going to slap a Paradyne unit in to rule out the CSU.

Here is a print of monitor. I took those 4 trunks out of pool 891. Went straight to monitor, and did this. It all happened in about 5 minutes time.

The trunks are being siezed from the carrier side and reporting "no external release" after the Legend times out waiting for digits. One other possibility, the CSU is not programmed properly for those 4 channels, if it is a CSU/DSU, those channels could be dropped to another port.
Try the Paradyne 3150 CSU or 3160 CSU/DSU to eliminate that hardware issue. If it clears then the issue is the Kentrox. If it doesn't, go after the carrier. I seriously doubt it is the Legend, based on the info above.

That's what I've been saying all along, but telecomtekperson did not answer any of the questions pertaining to Norlight Communications and testing results from same, etc.

Can't help if we don't have the info.
