Hello -

I am running a private network (no access to the McAfee FTP site) with Win NT 4.0 and McAfee 4.5.0 w/SP. We load the sdat and the dat.zip files on a server and then point all other machines to this server. This works fine using the 'Use logged in account' option. However if the user is logged off at the time the update is scheduled to run, it will fail. I have tried using the 'UNC Login' option but that also fails. The same thing happens with both the Update and Upgrade events. Anyone else having this problem? Solutions? Thanks.

If you're not in a workgroup or a domain, you will need to provide "domain\username" and "password" information to the update.

We wrote a login script solution for this. We wrote a quick detection/installation/update program in SMS script, that will once called from the logon script, will look to see if the user has Mcafee...if they don't, it does a full silent install... if they do, and anything is out of dat it can replace the dats or engine, or a full product upgrade. I don't know of any 3rd part progs that do this...hence we had to program ours. Mcafee is not very talkative about small end solutions anymore...they're now focusing on Enterprise solutions...you may want to consider using Norton...it is much easier on the smaller networks.
