Hi !

Master server : HP-UX 11.11 with NB 4.5 MP5
(SAP) Client : HP-UX 11.11

Here is the way the backup works now :

- We have a SAP policy in NB, schedule in the night 2AM, running a script on the master server.

- The script SAPID_online_split set up some variable and call the backup command (brbackup) with a configuration file. (utl)

- We have a Sap backup config file for Netbackup /initSID.sap. This file has the path for the split and sync 3rd mirror sript...

- So when the backup starts : NB call the script, the script alter tablespace, split the mirror, finish the alter process, write on the tape, backup the log, sync the mirror and the backup is done.

What I want to do (it's working and I want to change it [surprise]) is :

Run the sync and split script with the crontab to be able to execute them whenever I want.
That way I will be able to split the mirror during the night, run the backup in the morning (with no effect on the prod DB) and sync in the evening. So if I need to run a restore I will have a copy on the mirror disk (much faster) and in case a copy on tape.

So my question is : if I comment these lines in the sap configuration file :
# Third mirror break parameters
#split_cmd = " /usr/bin/remsh server -l root -n /opt/backup/bc/PR1/split_PR1_bcv"
#resync_cmd = " /usr/bin/remsh server -l root -n /opt/backup/bc/PR1/sync_PR1_bcv"

and add them in the crontab will it work ?
Or do I need to do something else ?

And who is doing this way to backup database ? Are you using cron or an other scheduler ?

Thanks, if you need more info please let me know.
