Hi all- I have a customer with a Merlin Legend FM1, 3 carriers, carded as follows:
Cabinet 1- 5 408ATL
Cabinet 2- 4 408ATL, 1 012, 1 800DID
Cabinet 3- empty
When I try to add 2 more 408 modules in the second carrier and move the last two modules, the 012 and 800DID to the third carrier, they will not work in the third carrier. In the error log I can see it recognizes the module type but shows errors. I've checked that the third carrier seats well into the second and I've cleaned the connector. Any ideas what might be wrong?

sorry, I should have mentioned, I did the board renumber several times. It did seem to "hang" after the board renumber but it did recognize the boards and the new boards in the second cabinet worked fine.

swap the pwr between the second & third carrier,if that fails then replace the carrier

Make sure you power up right to left, and wait about 5 seconds between powering on each carrier.

you may want to look at the pocket reference for the R1

You may be reaching limitations of the power supplies of the system, especially if they are old power supplies.

The old R1 legends have a large and small configuration. From my calculations of your existing equipment you have a large system so that should not be an issue.

If youare adding 408MLX cards They will not work, 408 MLX cards were not out when the Legend R1 came out. It just can't recognize them. On page 19 of the PDF i linked above you will see the valid cards for the R1. I recommend getting an R7 processor

Geez - spend $25 on eBay and buy them a CKE4 processor. UPgrade the power supplies (if they are as old as the processor) and they will be all set!

When you say "they will not work in the third carrier, did you men BOTH cards or just the 800 DID? You'll hvae to re-do the 800 DID setups as the line ID's have changed. If you have done this with no success, then try this: Rwmove the last two modules from carrier two, board renumber, add the two new cards to carrier two, board renumber, add the two cards to carrier three, board renumber. Check functionality after each board renumber. That processor most likely has electrc-Al Simerz disease, and special care must be used.

Good lord man - are you still too cheap to buy your customer a decent processor?? I mean - make it a late X-Mas gift. If they are paying you a monthly fee - then $25 should not break your budget. Programming around the limitations of the antique they have is not worth the effort - and is a disservice to your customer!!

Do not buy anything off ebay if you are an authorized dealer. That would be a disservice to your customer. Selling anything to your customer without a warranty is bad business. If you want to be cheap, go ahead, but I say get them a decent product with a warranty. If it does not have a warranty, it is not that decent anyway. Buying something off ebay to resell to your customer without a full diagnostic test, or refurbing it, is like hanging the cabinet on the wall by sticking it with a booger.

You do not always get what you pay for, but you never get what you do not pay for.
