Is it possible in Illustrator 9 to create type that has perspective (if, for example, you want to simulate a sign that is not facing straight on at the viewer)?

If Illustrator cannot do that, what plug-in(s) and/or other software program(s) do you recommend?

Hi,

I'mnot an expert but I think it is possible with the mesh tool in Illustrator. Haven't tried it though.
Corel draw, freehand are other possibilities.
Maybe vector tools of Bryc and other plugins are availablebut I'mnot so keen on plugins so I don't know too much of them.

..:)

Ack! stay away from Corel! Freehand is ok but why learn a new package just to get one effect. Look into Vector Effects 1.5. It is a pluggin package originally created by the same people behind Bryce but has since been bought by Corel (ugh!) Its still good stuff and will make your life a lot easier.

Folks, after posting the question, I found an answer that works really well for me:

1) After typing the word(s) using the Type tool, use Type --> "Create Outlines" on the type.

2) Then, select the "Outlined" word(s) and go to Filter --> Distort (the one above the horizontal line) --> Free Distort.

3) Move the handles independently until you get the perspective effect you want. (Check "Preview" to see what is happening.)

4) Then, save the result.

NOTE: It's sometimes difficult to get the angle that exactly matches other objects in the picture. If you are close, you can use the Rotate tool, rotating one degree at a time, to nudge to the exact angle.
