Hello, I'm trying to find a quick way to do 3D text in bryce. What I have been doing some far, was opening up photoshop loading a 400x400 or so project. Typing in the text in the font of my choice on a black background, using bevel effect if i want it to be a smoother shape, using a dark gray as the color for the text. then saving it as a jpg or bmp.

Then in bryce I created a Symmetrical Lattice , then went into Terrain editor, clicked the picture tab under Editing tools. loaded the jpg into both boxes, clicked applied, then smoothened as needed under the Elevation tab.

then pretty much tried it from there. Course the only problem is it's not perfect but works, for example did this one real quick as a snappy example.

Is there an easier or quicker way to create text, or perhaps even a program that cane make the mask easier or smoother.

By the way my system specs are:

AMD AthlonXP 1900+ ( 1.6Ghtz )
768MB PC3200 DDR memory
Windows XP Professional

I also have an Apple G4 733Mhtz Mac avalible to use Bryce5 as well, in the event of network rendering, but it is a tad bit slower than my PC when it comes to rendering single scenes.

The terrain editor shouldn't give you any problems. However, Wings3D is capable of making 3D text in any of your system's fonts. It's a free program and you can get it at
If I remember correctly, right-click anywhere on the Wings screen (once the program is running, of course) and then click "Text" from the menu. You'll be asked to type the text and choose the font. From here, you can choose all of the faces and File-Export to save it as a .3DS or .OBJ to open again in Bryce.

Hope this helps!
