I have a client who wants their products displayed 3d. eg, instead of a jpeg, they want a movie of the item that goes right around the object.

Has anyone seen a site that has done this...or have an idea on the best way of doing it?

I figure flash5 can't handle it, but am led to beleive mx might be able to.

Anyone?

True 3d is hard in Flash, even MX but you can bring in an object created in a 3d program like Swift or Vecta.

These two apps allow you to create 3d objects, apply animation then export as a .swf which you can control in Flash. Neither program creates "photorealistic" 3d though and detailed models will lead to huge file sizes.

Your best bet would be either going with Director 8.5 which has a fantastic 3d engine and can, in conjunction with a modelling program, give you realistic objects which you have complete control over.

If you just have a few objects to model and you need to stay in Flash then you can fake 3d easily enough...

Take 12 photos of the product rotating it by 30 degrees each time then load these into Flash into 12 frames of a movieclip - the effect when it animates with look like a 3d movie and you can control its speed and direction with simple actionScript. Slainte

I don't want to stay in flash particularly, I don't care what it is done in.

I want the best, lowest effort, highest quality, lowest download time result.

Ummmm. Too much?

I think I might resign this project to the too hard basket. My client has sculptures of up to 1.5 tonnes, even his smallest piece is 150 kilos.

I've founf a mac solution at but its still too fat to download the file sizes.

Going for an 8 shot timeline/jpeg instead using dreamweaver.

Not as sexy, but only 50k, vs 400k
