I have a simple report request and this is so frustrating that I can never easily get what I want. I have all the data, I even have it summarized.

I tried using a pivot table but I always get the error that I have too many column/rows yet it shouldn't be more than 5000 lines this report.

I tried creating a cube, but I've never done this and it froze up my computer. I don't have sql server analysis installed, but would that work for me?

Here's what I need:

Vendor
Item#
Descr
Qty Purchased
Avg Cost
Total Cost

The problem is it gives me separate rows for 2004 and 2005 of course. I want to have 2004 and 2005 in separate columns in one row per vendor. But a pivot table isn't working for me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

crystal reports would do this nicely but I know how much you like access ;)

if I were doing it in crystal I would make 2 variables
populate 2004 if date of receipt is in period put zero in 2005
populate 2005 if date of receipt is in that period put zero in 2004
put both fields in and sum the fields for totals etc or group however you like

I've got this report already done, we use it for historical purchase analysis and trends. Gives purchasing the edge on vendor selection and negotiation.

and they wonder why they call it Great Pains!

Thanks that should work great, even in Access. I have done something similar with other reports, for other variables.

I'll give it a try!

Thanks!
