3d programs other than..

Are there any good programs for designing 3D backgrounds and stuff,

Other than the following..

Photoshop
3D max


I dont want Flash oriented 3D programs. Just some 3D graphics design programs.

Thanks any advice can help.

I cant get it to run on my computer. Its irritating me.

Bryce is good for creating organic/landscape backgrounds. Amorphium is also interesting and 'organic' (and cheap!).

Strata and Carrara are cheapish and pretty good then you're into Lightwave/Max territory (i.e. good but not cheap).

I just got Maya 4 Unlimited, my problem now is just learning how to use it. Is Maya good for 3D abckgrounds??? thats mainly all i wanna create. Futuristic 3D backgrounds for web design.

well, as wengbar told you, bryce is quite cool stuff for landscapes.
for characters you could use "poser" (latest version is no. 5) that's pretty easy to use and you get appropriate results within a couple of minutes!
