Hello Everyone-
I was given a couple of 3com PS40 Hubs by a company who was throwing them out. I don't have ANY information on them and I was wondering where the hell to start. I tried accessing all the defaults through the LAN port, and I bought a standard serial cable to access the console again with now luck. I'm lost and although I've delt with alot of networking this is my next step and I can't seem to access this hub to manage it. I want to reset it to defaults or change it so I can manage it. Any hints for a manual reset? Again, I don't have its IP address, or username or passwords are there any suggestions or is all hope lost?

Thanks Everyone for any help you can give me it is much appreciated.

The solution is simple.

1) This link is for the manual, read (or skim) and digest...
2) Check the lights are om.
3) Check it is working with two computers
4) Use a null modem cable
5) Find the deafult routine or tech password on this forum.
6) Set up the hubs.

Obviously if 2) or 3) fail you need to get it fixed.

I hope this helps.

To access the console set your terminal emulation program to:

9600,n,8,1

using either 3com/cisco/null modem connector to the console hit enter several times

You will see login prompt
enter:

security
security

3comcso
RIP000

should reset hub to default.
