I've spent a LONG time trying to configure my 3C900B ethernet card in RedHat 7. It wasn't getting assigned an IRQ. If I said 'ifconfig eth0 up' for example, I got the nasty "Warning: IRQ 0 is unlikely to work!" and of course, it didn't.
The solution was (oddly enough) in the BIOS to turn off PCI support. When I re-booted, KUDZU installed the card and configured everything perfectly!
