We've been experiencing data corruption with our accounting department's software program. After contacting the software vendor we were told that they have had similar problems with 3COM nics and their program, running
on 100 Mbs switches.
We are using this model 3Com NIC's: 3C905B-TX-NM
and are using Cisco Catalyst 3524 switches...

Has anyone heard anything about this compatibility issue?

The biggest issue is trying to leave the switch or card in AUTO instead of locking it down to 100 full, half or whatever. 3com NIC do not play well with others in this sense.. not a bad NIC once you know the gotchas like this.

One thing I would check is if there is an "auto-polarity" option on your NIC card adapter settings. If so, DISABLE it and see what happens. This option is not necessary to leave enabled.

Also, I would highly recommend forcing the NIC and switch to 100 full, or whatever you prefer they be. Whatever the case, make sure the switch and NIC match.

Are you only seeing this data corruption when using this specific program? If so, I would question why the NIC is believed to be at fault.

Thanks.
