I've got a home/office network with Zyxel ADSL2+ modem and 24 mb broadband service. This goes through a 3Com 3C857 Cable/DSL 10/100 Gateway into a D-link DGS=1008D gigbit switch to my computers. All has worked fine for a number of years. Now I see that I only get 5.5 mb down from the 24 mb service. This only became apparent probably because my previous service was only 4 mb. Hooking the modem direct to my computer gives me a healthy 14.5 down. Both with and without give 950k up which seems normal. Seems like the Gateway is holding the max flow to around the 5.5 limit. I've gone through all product data I can find but cannot find anything about if this is normal and I need to upgrade to a higher capacity router or if there is something wrong that I can change in the Gateway. So I could really use some help here. I'm OK to upgrade the hardware but even the new product lit doesn't say much about throughput so I'm hesitant. The 10/100 rating on the Gateway theoretically means it should be fine so not really sure what the problem is. Have reset, restarted, etc. with no change in performance.
All cable ethernet connections are via Cat 5, all connections show correct speed via respective LED's etc. and my Macs are 100 and/or 1000 ethernet capable. All my checking points to the Gateway being the choke point.
If anyone has some suggestions on how to find out the problem it would be very helpful.
Thanks!
