3com connection

We are trying to set up a home network with a 3com hub. one pc has XP Professional, one has XP Home. The workgroup is MSHOME3. The IP address for the XP Professional computer is XXX.XXX.XX.2 and for the XP Home computer it is XXX.XXX.XX.1, but we cannot connect. Any suggestions?

I'll assume the xxx.xxx.xxx. numbers are identical on both along with subnet mask. At this point you should see link lights on the hub. If your running anything firewalls like zonealarm allow traffic and disable the XP firewall. Also try to ping one from the other.
