Hi !

I have a little problem. I try to flash my 9300 but I think the actual firmware was to big. But the old firmware was deleted. Now when I reboot the Switch he is getting in a Loop because no Firmware is available. By pressing Return at the right moment I get a prompt. There is a command (download) to download a firmware from a server. But when I try to download the firmware I get always an error "Missing argument".

Can someone help me ???

Best regards

I've been working on upgrading my 3300s and noticed the documentation mentions a Software Update Utility that can be used in the case the system loses power during the upgrade process. It updates the switch via the console port. I'm not sure if the 9300 is compatible, but might be a last effort before buying a new switch or paying the equivalent to get this one fixed.

I have downloaded the actual serial update utility from the 3com Website but it didn't work for the 9300. Have anyone an old version of this utility ?

You should be able to download from the prompt you have. You need to fill in all the information that is in the sample configuration. Missing arguement is the error that you recieve when one or more of the parameters are missing. For the ss9300's if you have a firmware level below 2.0 you must upgrade to 2.0 before upgrading to a firmware level higher than 2.0.

after a long break. i take my 9300 and test it again.
now it works i can get the firmware from my tftp server.
it says transfer complete, but when i reboot the switch, nothing changed. I tested it with diffrent firmware. 1.01, 2.05 und 3.05 (i think) but nothing helps

have you an idea ???

This thread looks long defunct, but in the event anyone sees this:

- Have a Superstack II 3900 that was a hand-me-down, and exhibits same behaviour: boots asking for a TFTP download.

tftp downloads, system prints "Load Complete" then sits for a couple of minutes before presenting a prompt that claims to be VxWorks:

-> version
VxWorks (for Motorola ADS - PowerPC 860) version 5.3.1.
Kernel: WIND version 2.5.
Made on Jan 5 1999, 09:23:47.
Boot line:
cpm(0,0) f=0x4100
value = 29 = 0x1d

A reboot returns to original situation. Many thanks for any info.
