Newbe question: We have 4 3com 4500 48port switches that we would like to stack and link to a 3com 5500 switch. I assume that I have to enable ports 51 & 52 on the 4500's and as fabric ports, also connect unit1 port 52 too unit2 port 51 and so on. Question can I link port 51 on unit 1 to the 5500 switch and is the IP address for the stack the same as unit 1?

It depends on the version of the O/S on each of the switches. They need to be at the same level (or both at least above the level where this feature was added.) I think they are pushing IRF to tie several switches into one large "virtual switch". if you have all 5500's and stacking cables, there is another way, but if you mix models, i think IRF is the way to do it.
