I want to connect a 3COM 4400 Switch to a Cisco 4506 Switch. The Cisco 4506 Switch is going to be the VTP server, and all the other switches are going to be the clients. My question is how can I connect the 3COM switch to the Cisco Switch since the only trunking protocol that the 3COM switch uses is 802.1q? Is there anything special I have to do on the 3COM switch to establish a connection with the Cisco Switch besides making sure that 802.1q is enabled on the Cisco Switch?

Thank You

Even though the Baseline 2226+ is layer 2, I set up this switch with a Cisco C2950G using the fiber GBIC and SFP modules as the link between them. I configured the 3Com VLAN ports to connect with the uplink trunk. The 2226+ has a user GUI and is real easy to use!

The C2950G was a little more complicated but I got thru it. See thread557-1274064 on the Cisco Routers forum for more info. I set VTP to transparent mode, defined the VLAN and then configured the interfaces (Fast & Gigabit). It worked great. The Cisco documentation was a big help too. I had to read in between the lines a bit, but I finally figured it out. (Cisco manuals are a lot like Northern Telecom PBX manuals)

Hope this helps!
