3com 3C996B-T gigabit server NIC

I am planning an upgrade to an existing small network and am planning to use 3 com 3C996B-T PCI cards in servers and have them plug into a 3Com 3824 gigabit switch (and from there outward to existing 100mb switches). The intent of the upgrade is to allow the servers to talk to each other faster so backups of files can be made faster. The servers are mostly older Compaq, running NT4 server and Novell 5.1.
I would appreciate any comments on things to watch out for on these 2 pieces of equipment.

You are not going to get NT4 file sharing to process at gigabit speeds anyway, it is barely able to do 100 meg, as I recall.

is another choice, better than 3com in my opinion.
