Hi all,

Has anybody ever had a problem installing a 3Com 3C905CX-TX-M NIC card into a Solaris x86 machine?
My machine seems to recognize the card no problem but whenever I plumb the interface and assign it an IP address the system hangs and returns "NULL pointer dereference" messages on reboot. The system then core dumps and reboots continuously:-(

Any ideas?

Incase anybody ever has a similar problem here's how to fix it;

1) Insert the PCI card into the slot and do a reboot -- -r on the system.
2) Download the elbc.pkg package into /var/spool/pkg (package available from the SUN website) and run a pkgadd -d elbc.pkg.
3) Accept all defaults when prompted.
4) Perform another reboot -- -r
5) The card will now be available as as elbc interface rather than the elxl one the system think it is at boot time.
6) Run the ifconfig command - ifconfig elbc0 plumb
7) Run the ifconfig command - ifconfig <IP> netmask <netmask> broadcast + -trailers up
8) vi /etc/hostname.elbc0 and enter the systems ip address only.
9) Reboot the machine to make sure the interface comes backup.
